Tamora Ilasat was born in New York City but has been living with her family in the Washington DC area for over 30 years. Her mother was an artist and Tamora developed a love of art from her and their frequent visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She was in the fashion industry in New York and after moving to Washington worked in retail management and was the fashion director at a large department store.
She always worked at her art drawing and painting and taking occasional classes. But when she retired she started working at it full-time and has a studio in DC at the Monroe Street Arts Walk.
Although her degree is in printmaking Tamora’s recent concentration is mixed media on canvas and paper. Her work has been exhibited in the metro DC area and is in private collections across the US.
She is currently working on a tree series - paintings, drawings and prints - with a goal of exhibiting them early next year.
